1. Not medical advice

The information on this site is published for general education. It is not a diagnosis, a treatment plan, or a substitute for consultation with a qualified healthcare professional.

Statements about traditional use describe historical practice in Chinese materia medica. They have not been evaluated by the FDA, EMA or any comparable authority, and they are not claims that a product treats or prevents disease.

2. Individual response varies

Botanical products affect people differently. A herb appropriate for one presentation may be unsuitable for another, and dose, constitution and concurrent medication all change the outcome.

3. Who should not use botanicals without supervision

Pregnant and breastfeeding people, children, people over 65, people with liver or kidney impairment, people taking anticoagulants, blood pressure or diabetes medication, and anyone scheduled for surgery should not start a botanical without professional advice.

4. Interactions

Several botanicals alter bleeding time, blood pressure, blood glucose or drug metabolism. Assume an interaction is possible until you have checked. A pharmacist can screen a list of products against your prescriptions.

5. Reporting a problem

If you suspect an adverse reaction, stop the product and seek medical advice. Report it to your national adverse-event reporting scheme and let us know so we can trace the lot.
